A public hearing by the Town Plan Commission was held before a standing room-only audience in the Town of Holland Hall on Thursday night, leading to passage of revisions to the zoning code in a Board Meeting that followed.
The revisions were disputed by the Citizens of Pine Beach Road group that’s been contesting approval for the use of a large lakeside home owned by American Orthodontics as lodging for employees and guests. That approval was initially granted by the Town Board but subsequently rejected by the Board of Appeals. The Citizens group also won in Sheboygan County Circuit Court last June when American Orthodontics filed an appeal to that decision.
According to witnesses, Thursday night’s meeting was filled to overflow with emotions high among attendees who questioned both a lack of transparency in zoning code restrictions and whether changes were truly in the best interest of Town citizens.
Town Board Chairman David Huenink told the residents that the use variance language in question must mirror those contained in State Statutes, and that the changes were meant to clear up ambiguity.
After all was said and done, both the Plan Commission and Town Board passed the changes unanimously.
