Before Wisconsin even became Wisconsin, settlers began establishing their homes in what became Sheboygan County, and one of those first homes has now been beautifully, and faithfully, restored.
York Estates, Inc., which owns and operates Sheboygan Falls’ historic Rochester Inn, also purchased the Cole House next door in 2024 and late last year, welcomed its first guests. The Cole House was built in 1842, and the Rochester Inn was built in 1848 when Wisconsin achieved statehood. Both are on the National Register of Historic Places, making preservation as important as restoration, and the results are sparkling examples of craftsmanship according to Kelly and Ray York who operate the venues.
Kelly York added, “As members of this community, we see ourselves not just as business owners, but as caretakers”, and that “Every restoration is an investment in the future of Sheboygan Falls.”
