The latest weather system moving through the midwest will turn weather back to the usual wintry sort today, with a gradual transition from overnight rain to all snow by this afternoon.
About a third of an inch of rain had fallen by 4 this morning, and whatever snow falls today will be minor as temperatures only reach freezing by sunset. The story is vastly different to our west, however, where a Winter Storm Warning was in effect roughly west of the Wisconsin River with a tier of counties to the east under a Winter Weather Advisory, both through noon today.

Winds will be the major concern here as they ramp up to 20-25 MPH with gusts in the 30s by the noon hour, just short of advisory levels.
No rush to bitter cold is in the offing for now, with temperatures settling to lows in the teens and highs in the 20s for early next week.
