A pheasant hunter who went missing on Sunday was located later in the day by a multi-agency response. The hunter from the Village of Richfield was in the Jackson Marsh State Wildlife Area just southeast of West Bend when he experienced low blood sugar as a result of Type-1 Diabetes, and could not determine his location. He first contacted his wife via cellphone, and her emergency call sent responders from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Jackson Fire Department and the Wisconsin DNR to locate him.
Officials were able to contact the man and, using cell phone tracking technology, pinpointed him over a quarter mile inside the extremely challenging terrain, much of it in knee-deep water.
Rescuers spent nearly 30 minutes locating the man and his dog and, after administering glucose, stabilized him and determined that walking out on foot was the only option, a trek that took over an hour.
Thanks to those efforts, the man was safely reunited with his wife last night.
