YES! YES! YES! Live look at me in 1994 and me last night:

Like a lot of folks who read the blog or listen to the podcast, I grew up on the NBA on NBC. Bob Costas, Steve Snapper Jones, Bill Walton (RIP), all of it. After mumbling my way through the Nicene Creed at church on Sunday, my family would stop and get a piece of bakery at the Piggly Wiggly, and then I would sit and watch every second of the NBA on NBC tripleheader. I’d live and die with those Bulls/Knicks, Pacers/Knicks, Sonics/Rockets matchups all day. And I’d dream of one day growing up and being able to put a parlay on the outcome of all of those games.
Now we’ve known for over a year that the NBA was headed back to its rightful place on NBC, but I couldn’t help but wonder if the product was going to match my memory of it. But it did! The lasers, the NBC logo, the AI-version of the old voiceover guy (also RIP), Roundball Rock, it ALL hit. The presentation was a 10/10.
And the Bucks will be on the national broadcast next Tuesday! Speaking of, opening night tonight. And despite eleventy billion rumors/lies thrown out there by Shams, Giannis will be wearing a Bucks jersey tonight. Honest to God I think Shams needs to wear an ‘I WAS WRONG’ scarlet letter every single time he’s on TV this season. Absolutely criminal what he did for three months only for us to get to the first game of the year and he’s still in Milwaukee. In the words of George Costanza, “all I want is for an apology and for him to be fired.”
