Sheboygan County’s proposed 2026 budget is going up for review, with projections of the 10th consecutive year of property tax rate reductions. County Board members will receive the document next Tuesday.
As now proposed, the total budget is $216.1 million, including $54.7 million of property tax levy. Besides the property taxes, the budget is mostly made up by federal, state, sales tax, and user fee revenue, and supports 950 employees in 19 departments, administering over 200 programs and services.
While the property tax levy increases by 1.72%, the tax rate would decrease by 9.3% from the 2025 rate. That results in a $33.31 decrease for a home valued at $100,000.
County Administrator Alayne Krause said that she was “incredibly proud of the 2026 budget”, and that it “reflects the culture of collaboration that is a key to Sheboygan County’s success.”
A public hearing is scheduled for October 28th, with final approval anticipated when the County Board next meets on November 4th. The budget can be inspected either in person, or online at www.sheboygancounty.com.
