Court documents filed against the man accused of firing the shot that killed a Canadian visitor in Sheboygan Falls after nearly a week ago describe the events in chilling detail. 35-year-old Luis E. Cruz-Burgos of Sheboygan is charged with First Degree Reckless Homicide in the death of Giovanni, or “Mike” Robinson of Ontario, Canada just after midnight last week Wednesday morning.
According to the complaint, multiple witnesses and video evidence indicates that Robinson along with three others were celebrating his first hole-in-one earlier that day with drinks and pool games in Sheboygan Falls and looking for a ride back to their hotel in Kohler. Cruz-Burgos, a DoorDash driver having completed his last delivery, was approached by the four who tried bargaining for a ride back, but after no success, they decided instead to walk back. The complaint claims that a short time later Cruz-Burgos, who alleges he was insulted during the initial encounter, then drove past the group, firing a single shot that struck Robinson who collapsed into the arms of one of the companions and was unable to be revived. For his part, Cruz-Burgos claimed he heard a pop but that it wasn’t from him, and he also denied possessing a gun.
Bail was set at $2 million and a preliminary hearing for Cruz-Burgos was set for October 8th.
