A vehicle and its driver are the subject of a search by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office after a pursuit had to be called off for safety early this morning.
A Sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office first saw what was later identified as a Silver 2024 VW Jetta with Georgia registration, traveling northbound on I-41 at 12:37 this morning at speeds estimated over 140 MPH. Other agencies were alerted as the Sheriff’s officer tried to catch up, and a Deputy next spotted the vehicle about six miles down the road near Highway 23. A chase ensued but the driver sped up even more, passing other vehicles on the shoulder and striking a construction barrel. The chase was terminated for the safety of construction workers and the Jetta was last seen entering Winnebago County. At those speeds, the 15-mile chase lasted under seven minutes.
The whereabouts of both the vehicle and its driver are currently unknown and the investigation continues.
