A major intersection on the western gateway to Sheboygan will be under construction beginning next week.
The intersection of Wilgus Avenue and North Taylor Drive will be closed to through traffic beginning on Monday (September 15th) until mid-November of this year. The intersection is scheduled for storm sewer and roadway improvements, new ADA-compliant crosswalks and new traffic signals. Also, eastbound traffic on Wilgus Avenue will be accommodated with a full-width right turn lane.
The project takes place in two phases; the first beginning on Monday will close Wilgus Avenue access to North Taylor Drive, which itself will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction.
Phase-2, scheduled to begin in mid-October, will impose right-turn-only access from Wilgus Avenue to North Taylor Drive only, with through-movement still prohibited. During this phase, North Taylor Drive will remain open with one through lane in each direction, and with right turn access to Wilgus Avenue only. Left turn movements will still be prohibited.
As usual, schedules can be affected by the weather, and the City is urging patience and caution in work zones.
