Live look at Rickey Scoops dropping that tweet and then turning off his phone last night:

DAMMIT RICKEY!
Anyway, even though no one has ever heard of Rickey Scoops, and Mr. Scoops may or may not just be an engagement farming account, that tweet starting spreading like wildfire on Packer Twitter. Fans, bloggers, podcasters, beat writers, everyone was sharing it and starting to talk themselves into the Packers taking a BIG swing at a generational defensive talent.
Then John Kuhn poured kerosene on that fire:
Micah Freaking Parsons

WHAT DO YOU KNOW, JOHN???
As it turns out, nothing. This was a tweet from Matt Schneidman this morning:
BOOOOOOOOOUUUUUHHHNNNNN!
So that’s where we’re at. For about an hour last night it felt like Micah Parsons could be a Packer at any second. Then I woke up this morning and nothing happened. The fire has been reduced to a smolder, and it feels like nothing is going to happen:

For what it’s worth, I’d be more than willing to spend that package of future picks on Parsons. This is a once-in-a-lifetime type of player. I’m not going to compare it to the Reggie White signing, that feels like a bridge too far, but it wouldn’t be far behind that. A 3-time All Pro linebacker just entering the prime of his career at 26 years old. A game wrecker. He single handedly fixes one of the biggest issues the defense had last season: Pressuring the opposing quarterback without having to use a blitz package.
But as the hours tick by, it feels more and more like this is a ‘Tony Gonzalez to the Packers*,’ or ‘Caleb Williams to the Badgers’ type of tease.
Gutey is scheduled to talk to the media this morning after roster cutdown day yesterday, I can’t imagine what that first question he fields is going to revolve around.
*We did this for SO many years. I think 5 straight seasons of Tony Gonzalez-to-the-Packers rumors. I’m pretty sure we even had one the offseason after Gonzalez retired and signed a contract as broadcaster with CBS.
PS: Not to be lost in the Parsons fog yesterday, YOUR MILWAUKEE BREWERS! Another game where it looked like they were going to blow a big lead, but they end up digging it out in the 9th inning. Given how gassed the bullpen is because of this 19 game in 18 day stretch, you’ll take it. Combo it up with a Cubs loss last night and we’re feeling MUCH better, up 6.5 games in the Central. Related: The over on 82.5 wins hit on AUGUST 26TH! That’s INSANE. Let’s all feel good for the people who laid down that sweet action back in mid-March. Very excited to see how they blow it all on a Week 1 NFL parlay that has no chance of hitting. Should be fun!
