So I had some people text the station line the last few mornings wondering if there will be a rebroadcast of the Bob Uecker Celebration of Life from Sunday’s Brewer game. My answer was that I don’t know (very helpful!), but I DO know that the full video has been posted on Youtube. So I figured we’d link it up on the blog so that in the future I can say it’s on our website instead of telling people, ‘why don’t you google it!’
Now as we said on the podcast yesterday, this was an absolute masterclass put on by the Brewers on Sunday. From Bob Costas hosting, to the special guests, to the video packages, the flyover, the “Ueck” on the back of every player’s uniform instead of their own name, renaming the broadcast area the “Bob Uecker Broadcast Center,” it was all perfect. They could have done 50% of what they did and I think everyone would have walked away pleased, but they went above and beyond. And rightfully so for a legend like Ueck. But between this and the Alumni Home Run Derby, the marketing department has been putting together one HELL of a summer.
The only bummer of the day was the fact that the Brewers lost the game in dramatic fashion in the 9th inning, but even that felt oddly perfect. You just know Ueck would have laughed, or had some hilarious one-liner about the fact that the team lost on the day of his celebration of life.
Anyway, we’ll see how long this video is allowed to be on the blog before it’s blacked out due to copyright. Should be a fun 13 minutes!
PS: I know the old adage is that there’s no crying in baseball, but I think I needed to ‘itch my eyes’ about 4 minutes into that broadcast on Sunday. At least I had an excuse for my Sunday afternoon crying this time.
Double PS: Last night felt like a big win. With how good this team has been, I think we’re already at ‘ass-clenching’ season. Gone are the halcyon days of May and June where nothing was a HUGE deal. Every game for the last week+ has had an October feel to it. You want to win the division and be the #1 seed, these last 30 games are going to test our blood pressure.
