WHOOOOOOAAAA BABY! What a burger! This is what we do it for, Brewer fans. When we’re in the trenches, battling with Cubs fans on Twitter, that picture of a George Webb burger is what we have under our pillow to get through to another day. That’s the type of burger that launches a thousand ships. That (overcooked) burger tastes like WINNING.
In all seriousness, I laughed out loud when I saw that picture pop up on Twitter bright and early on George Webb Free Burger Winning Streak Wednesday. That is the definition of a ‘no frills’ burger. Not a single frill to be found. No lettuce, no tomato, no onion, no mayo, no ketchup, no cheese, no butter. Just a hockey puck burger on generic bun. Drier than a fart. I don’t know what the opposite phrase for ‘whetting my appetite’ would be, but that’s where I’m at. I’m not whet.
At the end of the day though, the old German proverb goes: If it’s free, it’s for me! And that burger is FREE. 2pm-6pm today at every George Webb location today only. BYOC (Bring Your Own Cheese).
PS: Webb Free Burger Day did lose a little bit of its luster after getting swept in a double header at Wrigley yesterday. Not great, Bob! But also not the end of the world like 25% of Brewer fans on Twitter would have you believe. “Welp, here we go! Epic collapse starts now!” “Cubs will be in first place by Labor Day!” “It was fun while it lasted!” And on and on it went. For that portion of the fan base: Act like you’ve watched a full season of baseball ONE time in your life. It’s a LONG season. The Brewers have been playing incredible baseball for almost two months. An 11-game winning streak AND a 14-game winning streak. That wasn’t sustainable. This team wasn’t going to go 112-50 and do the lambada into the World Series. At some point they were going to cool off, and at some point a talented Cubs team that’s been spinning its wheels for two months was probably going to get going again. That’s baseball, babe. If you can’t handle losing 3 of 4 after a 14 game winning streak then you have NO chance of surviving October baseball.
