Shams can’t stop, won’t stop talking about Giannis leaving Milwaukee. Quadrupled down yesterday on ESPN.

WHAT IS THIS GUY’S DEAL???

I know we talked about this back in June when he first tossed it out there that, ‘per my sources,’ Giannis is exploring other options outside of Milwaukee, but when Shams took the NBA rumor baton from Woj a few years back, I was happy! At that point he seemed like a likable dude, he was definitely #2 on  NBA rumor/breaking news Twitter, it made perfect sense.

And then, for seemingly no reason at all, he started beating this Giannis-is-leaving-Milwaukee drum. And HE WON’T STOP. He’s like an unsupervised toddler in a music shop. I don’t get it! There hasn’t been a SINGLE rumor from ANYONE ELSE with credibility that Giannis has a notion that he wants to play somewhere else next season. In a weird way I’m almost starting to wonder if Shams really does have some kind of source because it feels like he’s staking his whole reputation to this story and if it flops (it will) then what is he going to say?

And at this point we’re like a month away from training camp! In a world where I believe Shams’ reporting on this subject, it would have made WAY more sense when he initially reported it before the draft. That way a team that’s interested in Giannis could have put a trade package together that included multiple picks this summer. But we’re basically knocking on the door of the season at this point. Is Shams really hinting that a top 25 all time player, and man who is on record as loving Milwaukee and has been loyal to a fault, is going to demand a trade just a few weeks before the season starts??

Now there are some people on Twitter that are saying that if Giannis starts the season in Milwaukee (he will), that Shams should be fired. As irritated as I am with him, I would never call for another person’s job. Even if they are really terrible at what they’re doing (Shams). But what I think NEEDS to happen, is some kind of Scarlett Letter situation. When Giannis plays this season in Milwaukee, I think Shams needs to wear a gigantic Bango sticker on his suit, signifying that he was horribly wrong about the hottest take of his career. Maybe even throw it under his on-screen byline when he’s talking on the air. “Shams Charania, ESPN NBA Insider, Liar, Rat.” Something like that.
