(Editor’s note: Rupp’s in downtown Sheboygan is the establishment changing hands, and this in no way involves Rupp’s Supper Club in the Village of Cleveland. We apologize for any confusion.)
A classic supper club in Sheboygan is about to change hands. Sandra Rupp, owner of Rupp’s in downtown Sheboygan, is handing over the business she’s owned for the past 45 years to Diedre Martinez and her husband, Samuel Melei when she retires at the end of this month. Martinez is the current CEO of the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce, while Melei is a Municipal Judge for the Village of Kohler.
The club is somewhat of a throwback to the days in the 20th Century when supper clubs were “a thing” throughout Wisconsin. And it’s not the first ownership change; Rupps was known as Everett’s Lodge before it was acquired in 1979.
While much has changed since then, the new owners have indicated that they intend to maintain the tradition of a supper club, even while making some upgrades. They’ve indicated that, while there will be some interruption, it shouldn’t be too long before people can again plan their dinners in a classic downtown Sheboygan establishment.
