The Sheboygan Police Department is warning speeding drivers to “slow it down”. The SPD has been focusing on a different driver violation each month, and said that it is placing extra emphasis on speeding violations this July.
The SPD points to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that blamed speeding for over one-quarter (28.1%) of all traffic fatalities over the last ten years. In 2023, that added up to 11,775 people killed.
While the Sheboygan Police Department is doing its part to deal with speeding drivers, the NHTSA says there are ways you can also manage an encounter with a speeder by moving over to allow them to pass, or just by giving them plenty of space. If you’re being tailgated, use judgement to safely steer out of the way, and call police if you believe a driver is following or harassing you.
And if you’re the speeding driver in Sheboygan, don’t say you weren’t warned about those flashing lights and siren behind you.
