A shared love of baseball is being employed to connect youth with local law enforcement, thanks to help from the Milwaukee Brewers. An effort begun 40 years ago is as popular as ever – maybe even more so as the club announced on Wednesday that it’s expanding its trading card prints program and, thanks to overwhelming positive feedback, producing a second run of this year’s prints.
Rick Schlesinger, the Brewers President of Business Operations said that they were pleased to expand the program to help inspire the next generation of baseball fans.
The Sheboygan Police Department is among 30 law agencies around the state that will be handing out reprints of the original comic book-inspired cards featuring outfielders Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, and Sal Frelick; catcher William Contreras and infielders Brice Turang and Joey Ortize.
Other area departments participating in the youth outreach include Fond du Lac, Manitowoc and West Bend. Officers will keep cards on-hand to distribute to youth, helping to maintain a closer connection between them.
