A collaborative effort spearheaded by the Sheboygan Rotary Club will resume its reforestation Sheboygan Area School District Properties next week Saturday.
Restoration Of Our Trees Sheboygan, better known as ROOTS, is a project that Rotary launched six years ago along with the Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership.
Working with the Sheboygan Area School District in a first-of-its kind collaboration in the State of Wisconsin, ROOTS and volunteers will be planting 40 large trees on the Sheboygan North High and Pigeon River Elementary School grounds on Saturday, May 10th. The multi-year effort was made possible by a $25,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, which was matched by funds from the Sheboygan Rotary Club. The City of Sheboygan and private donors are also offering in-kind support.
Activity next Saturday launches at North High at 8 a.m. with introductory remarks by project coordinators and a planting demonstration by North High environmental-biology instructor, David Miller…and then it’s shovels-in-the-ground.
ROOTS has credited Miller’s involvement as a major factor in the collaboration’s success.
It’s not the only effort that ROOTS is doing this year; late last month, Town of Sheboygan Lions joined in the planting of 67 trees on Township properties, and much more of Sheboygan County is gradually getting greener, thanks to ROOTS.
