The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development has released preliminary March employment and unemployment numbers, which show local performance mostly steady, and not out-of-line with the rest of the State of Wisconsin.
The Sheboygan Metropolitan Statistical Area’s labor force numbered a seasonally-adjusted 63,800 in March, down 100 over the month, but up 500 over the year. The unemployment rate, at 2.9%, dropped one-tenth compared to February, but was still one-tenth above March of 2024.
The City of Sheboygan experienced March unemployment of 3.1%, unchanged from February and one-tenth of a percent above last year’s rate, tying with three others for the 16th lowest city unemployment rate among Wisconsin’s 35 largest cities.
Sheboygan County experienced a 2.9% unemployment rate in March, down one-tenth from February, but up a tenth over the year. That maintains a hold on the 4th lowest unemployment rate among Wisconsin’s 72 counties, and in a three-way tie with LaCrosse and Green Counties. Sheboygan was one of only 4 counties to see a month-over-month decrease; 11 were unchanged while increases were seen in the remaining 57 counties.
