Highway 32 will officially be closed in portions between Sheboygan Falls and Cedar Grove beginning Monday, March 31st as Governor Evers has signed the $5.1 million contract for its reconstruction. The project includes replacing five large box culverts and seven smaller cross culverts, resurfacing the roadway with a new 2-inch asphalt overlay, guardrail replacement, reconstructing the pedestrian curb ramps in Cedar Grove, along with new pavement marking and centerline rumble strips.
Detours will be employed in two phases, first routing traffic around the south portion between Union Avenue in Cedar Grove and Highway โVโ north of Gibbsville, using I-43 and Highway V for the bypass. Depending upon weather, that could last anywhere from 4 to 5 months as box culverts are replaced.
Phase two closes the highway between โVโ and Highway 28 in Sheboygan Falls for box culvert replacement, beginning as soon as phase one concludes and lasting another 2 to 3 months. Traffic will be routed using โVโ, I-43 and Highway 28. During the resurfacing portions of the project, the highway will remain open with flag crews controlling traffic.
Once completed, which is expected in October, the work should improve the smoothness and safety of the roadway and extend its life, while the culverts will reduce the impact of heavy rain and flooding water.
