Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers’ Tuesday night biennial budget address was both “incredibly pleasing” and at the same time, “a wish list that fails to prioritize responsible investments in our state’s future.” It all depends upon who’s reacting to the democrat governor’s Executive budget proposal.
Governor Evers defended his plans to spend $3.15 billion as “the most pro-kid budget in state history.” The Governor aims to reduce water contamination, especially concerning lead and PFAS, initiatives that he allotted a proposed $300 million in order to address. The Governor also requested $60 million to support technical colleges, and wants Wisconsinites’ tax bills reduced by another $2 billion.
26th District Assembly Representative Joe Sheehan, a Democrat, said that he was “…incredibly pleased with Governor Evers’ budget proposal and his plan for Wisconsin”, while Republican Senator Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac said that the proposed budget was “chalked-full of unchecked spending, more government, and higher taxes.” And Senate Majority Leader, Republican Devin LeMahieu of Oostburg, called the budget “bloated”, claiming that it would bankrupt Wisconsin. He said that Senate Republicans are instead committed to using the state’s $4.5 billion surplus to provide substantive tax relief to Wisconsin families.”
