Brutal cold was of no help in suppressing a fire overnight, and a barn on Sumac Road in the Town of Lima and its contents were a total loss.
Sheboygan County Emergency Dispatch received the 911 call just before midnight, and the first units on the scene reported the barn, about 2 miles southeast of Plymouth, was fully engulfed in flames. 35-40 calves were housed in the structure and all were lost.
There was no immediate cause identified by investigators who continue to look into the fire’s origin. Some 20 agencies responded to handle the blaze in temperatures that were around 5 below zero at the time, with wind chills in the low 20s below.
