The first Winter Storm Watch of the season has been issued for the Sheboygan area by the National Weather Service. The watch, in effect from 6 a.m. Thursday through noon on Friday was issued early this morning for the potential of 6 or more inches of snow in Sheboygan and Fond du Lac Counties which for now, appear to be in the bullseye. Those living in Calumet and Manitowoc Counties, as well as points northward to the UP, are being advised of between 5 and 8 inches during the event. In all cases, travel could become very difficult with both the morning and evening commutes tomorrow most affected.
Snow is forecast to begin before sunup on Thursday with maybe an inch-and-a-half collecting by noon, and another inch-and-a-half by sundown. The lion’s share, though, is forecast for the overnight hours when as much as 5 more inches could accumulate before gradually ending Friday. With Lake Michigan providing additional moisture, areas near the are the most likely to get the highest totals, though the effects could extend as far inland as the Kettle Moraine.
As usual for such systems, forecasts can change and those planning any travel during the period should keep up with the forecasts.
