A program that recognizes communities that demonstrate leadership and exceptional DNR regulatory compliance has honored Sheboygan’s environmental achievements for the 10th time.
The milestone was recognized at the recent Green Tier Connections event held in Milwaukee. A plaque commemorating Sheboygan’s decade-long involvement in the Green Tier Legacy Communities Program was presented to the city, which was noted for its focus on renewable energy projects, water quality protection and availability of educational resources. The Wisconsin DNR, which oversees the program, said that the efforts have contributed to a more sustainable and resilient community, setting an example for other municipalities across the state.
Green Tier Legacy Communities participants commit to prioritizing sustainability, improving resilience, and engaging with the public in meaningful environmental stewardship initiatives. They’re also given access to resources and guidance from the DNR that helps them develop strategies that help reduce their environmental impact and improve their residents’ quality of life.
