So we were doing a little Packer trivia on the morning show today, and while I was trying to mine information for a question I stumbled upon this on the Packers/Lion Wiki page:

Now I’ve watched every Packer game since I was about 6 or 7 years old, which means I’ve seen roughly 66 Packer/Lions games in my lifetime. I have never, EVER, heard this rivalry referenced as the Yooper Bowl.
This all comes down to the UP and how the western part of the UP is apparently made up of Packer fans, and the eastern part of the UP is primarily made up of Lions fans. Thus, the Yooper Bowl.
So these fans all meet up at da bar for da Packers/Lions game and one side says, “GO PACK GO YAH DER HAY” and the other side says “DAN CAMPBELL AND DA LIONS YOU BETCHA EH” and then they watch the game while hammering rutabaga pasties before closing the night out by playing Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald on an old jukebox that’s been sitting in the corner of the bar since 1968.
Actually sounds like kind of a fun night if I’m honest. Sidenote: Pasties are WILDLY underrated. Sheboyan Pasty Company started a few years ago as a nod to the UP delicacy and they are incredible.
Anyway, thought I’d pass tidbit along to our loyal readers (shoutout to my mom and father in law) because I found it interesting and I’d never heard of it before. YOOPER BOWL!
PS: I know this is going to come as a shock, but I have a really good feeling about tonight’s game. I have no idea why, I just think the Packers are winning this game. Party in the Western UP tomorrow morning.
Double PS: It is my understanding that the UP is basically all hunting/outdoors/sports culture. Feels like Wisconsin should have annexed that area a LONG time ago.
