There’s nothing like the feeling of showing off a brand new, bright, shiny red vehicle…and the Sheboygan Fire Department was feeling proud while doing just that yesterday.
The latest addition to the SFD is a new ambulance that was put into service at Fire Station-1 on 9th and New York Avenue on Wednesday. The new unit replaces a 16-year-old vehicle, improving safety and efficiency for both patients and first responders.
Med 1851 features a fuel-saving engine, safety harnesses for providers, a power-loaded patient cot and a power chair lift. The SFD says these and other features will improve patient handling and firefighter safety, reduce the physical demands on emergency responders, and enhance overall efficiency in handling emergencies.
SFD Assistant Chief Michael Lubbert offered the Department’s thanks to the Common Council and the community for their support and commitment to public safety. He added that Pomasl Fire Equipment and Demers Ambulances were able to deliver the new unit in just one year. Others ordered in 2021 and ‘22 are experiencing significant delays with delivery not expected until 2025 and ‘26. The previous Med 1851 will be retained as a spare until those new ambulances arrive.
