Let’s get that ship today boys!
So even though the Crew lost last night, the Magic Number dropped to one (1!) because Counsell (more like CLOWNsell) and the Cubs lost as well.
Now this presents an interesting conundrum for people like my wife and I who have tickets for tonight’s game. Here it is:
The Cubs play at home this afternoon against the A’s. If they lose that game, the Brewers are NL Central champions before they even take the field tonight against the Phillies. Obviously great, but kind of anti-climatic, right? Like the scenario exists where the Cubs lose, the Brewers win the division, but they also lose tonight, and then they’ll still spray champagne and celebrate a division title? Again, that’s fine, just feels kind of…..blah.
I actually think the best fan/player celebration experience exists on this timeline: The Cubs win this afternoon (bleh) then the Brewers win tonight. They get to celebrate a title after a huge win and they kind of, ‘did it on their own.’
Worst case scenario is the Cubs win and Brewers lose and we have to wait another day I suppose. So in the end I guess you take the division title anyway you can seal it up, but it just feels ‘off’ to celebrate after a loss, if that’s how it plays out.
PS: I saw someone on Twitter ask the Brewer beat reporter, Adam McCalvy, if the Brewers would celebrate before or after the game if the Cubs lose this afternoon. I *THINK* this was a tongue-in-cheek question, but the idea of the Brewers coming out BEFORE tonight’s game and spraying champagne and chugging beer, THEN lining up for the Anthem and first pitch is laugh out loud funny. Might be something the ’82 Brewers would have done.
