ROBBERY ALERT

(I thought 100% that this was going to get overturned last night when they challenged the catch. I’m conditioned at this point that every replay will go against the Brewers. Quite refreshing that that didn’t happen!)
We have been SPOILED as Brewer fans over the last few decades with fantastic centerfield defense. Carlos Gomez was one of the best in the league:
Honestly I think Go-Go is one of the most underrated Brewer players of all time. Of course we had Lo Cain:
Side note: I miss Matt Lepay as a fill-in play-by-play guy. Lo Cain also had this insane catch in Colorado:
BANANAS. And beyond those two we had a few years at the tail end of Mike Cameron’s career, a generation slightly older than me will remember Robin Yount patrolling centerfield, it’s a laundry list of elite defenders.
But that Blake Perkins catch last night might be the best single robbery these eyes have ever seen. I know the circumstance wasn’t the same as the Gomez theft and Cain’s Opening Day catch that ended games and preserved wins, but the sheer difficulty of Perkins’ catch last night might have eclipsed all of the other efforts we posted above.
SADLY, this came in a lose. One of those games last night that had incredible highlights (Perkins, Chourio’s home run off of the damn scoreboard, Adames go-ahead home run) but every time they were able to seize momentum they gave it right back. Like Sonic loses his rings over and over and over again. Tough one but hopefully they can get back on track tonight.
PS: I am not worried about the Cubs being 9 games back. Repeat: I am NOT worried about the Cubs.
Double PS: If I’m honest, upon the rewatch of the Cain catch in Colorado, that might be better than Perkins last night. But I came into this blog with the take that Perkins’ catch was the best so I have to stick with that.
