The recent drug take-back event in Sheboygan County successfully kept over three-quarters of a ton of potentially dangerous drugs off the streets and out of the environment. The first of the two annual collections took place on April 27th, and the collection at four sites located in various locations through the County took in over 502 pounds of out-dated and unused medication. But it was the collection from permanent boxes located throughout the county that took in the most that day – over 1,057 pounds worth. That means a total of 1,559.2 pounds of drugs were safely collected and disposed of in that single day.
The first prescription drug take-back day was held by the Drug Enforcement Administration in 2010 as a nationwide effort to remove dangerous and addictive drugs from the risk of abuse and theft. The next prescription drug take-back day will be held in October.
