Craig Counsell on his reaction to the response he received from the Brewers faithful yesterday: "We had a lot of laughs about it, to be honest with you. More than anything, we laughed about it." pic.twitter.com/Eg0al9IENz

This might be the perfect situation to use this meme. Ladies and germs, Craig Counsell laughing off getting booed out of the building on Monday at Am Fam:
I’m only 70% sure what the term ‘gaslighting’ means, but I think this is Craig Counsell gaslighting. There’s just no way getting booed in your hometown doesn’t hurt a little bit. No chance. A few other things on this series subplot in no particular order:
- I am very happy that we got the reaction from the crowd that we did on Monday. Absolutely ZERO ambiguity on how fans felt. I was worried that the Cubs fan presence in the buildling would make it tough to assess how Brewer fans felt about Craig. That did not happen. That was a THICK boo. A lusty boo. That boo came from the bottom of the ol’ diaphgragm.
- I was STUNNED that they did a video tribute and a, ‘Thank You Craig,’ moment before the game on Monday. But the more I think about it, the more I think they did it explicity to get the crowd revved up for the starting lineup introduction. At first I thought that someone working for the Brewers truly thought they had to say thank you for his time in Milwaukee. Now I think they did it because they knew it would get the crowd riled up and lead to an even BIGGER boo when his picture came up in a Cubs hat.
- I’ve had some people tell me I need to be an adult and stop being petty as it relates to Counsell. That’s fine. I hear you. But the thing about me is this: I can be a petty person. I can be childish. It’s not a great character trait, I get that, but as I’m knocking on the door of 40, it feels like that might just be the person I am.
I do want to reiterate: I have come to terms with why Counsell did what he did. He got a boatload of money, he still lives close to home, and he goes to a franchise that can spend WAY more money on players than the Brewers. His odds of having the high caliber talent to win a World Series in Chicago are better than they were in Milwaukee. It makes sense! But you don’t get to say you were, ‘Born a Brewer,’ you don’t get to say, ‘I know you because I am you,’ leave for our most hated division rival, and then walk back in the front door to a warm hug. And I think based on the reaction at Am Fam the first two nights of this series shows that most Brewer fans feel the same.
PS: Last night’s ending was a bummer, but the Ben Brown situation for the Cubs was CLASSIC Counsell. Brown is one of the Cubs’ top pitching prospects and he was DEALING last night. Absent a near-home run from Willy Adames in the 7th inning, he was dominating. BUT, he was also at 93 pitches through 7 innings of a no-hitter. His previous career high for pitches in a game was 89. So that led to speculation on Twitter as to whether or not Counsell would let him go for the no-no. Brewer fans: LOL. We knew he was taking him out. I feel like that same situation presented itself 4-5 times during his time in Milwaukee with Freddy, Woodruff and/or Burnes. He always lifts them. And it almost burned them! The Brewers were able to tie the game off of the bullpen before dropping it in the 10th. Unfortunate situation to start that top of the 10th inning with the 99mph comebacker hitting Megill’s pitching elbow. Luckily it sounds like he avoided an elbow fracture, but that set the table for a rough 10th inning in yesterday’s loss.
