Mother of God. The Mallards have done it again.
Quick back story: I used to call games in the NWL for the Wisconsin (now Wausau) Woodchucks. The NWL is probably the second best college wood-bat league in the country behind the Cape Cod League. Essentially the league is littered with the top college players in the country that are looking to get a summer of at-bats with a wood bat. It also features young broadcasters whose dreams of one day being on ESPN slowly evaporate in a press box with no air-conditioning.
That said, we LOVED when we got to call road games in Madison. It is, without question, the best summer baseball atmosphere in the country. They know exactly the audience they are catering to: College students who still live in Madison during the summer and former students who live and work in Madison. I’m sure there are other age demographics represented as well, but from what I recall, that age group was their base.
And in order to satisfy that audience? They introduced the Duck Blind. Easily the best deal in sports. $42 Friday and Saturday, $35 Sunday-Thursday. All you can eat, and all you can drink for over 3 hours.
Now I bet you’re thinking, ‘Okay, Jon, that’s a good deal, but what kind of beer are we talking about? Miller Lite or Coors Light? Busch?’ To which I would respond, ‘What’s wrong with those beers? Those beers built this country. You think you’re better than beers that built this country??’ And then after about 2-4 more minutes I would tell you that not only do you get those choices, but TWENTY FIVE total tap beer selections. Between that and some top level food, you’ll feel like baseball-Caligula.
And now they introduce this bad mama jama: The 67 ounce Das Duck Boot. I have no idea how much it costs but getting about 5.5 beers in one convenient container sounds nice. The only downfall might be the temperature this beer is going to be for the final 10-15 ounces, but that’s why I would recommend it as a passing beer. Get a crew together, get a boot in the first inning and pass it down the line until it’s gone. Everybody gets involved, everybody gets a little backwash, good team building.
PS: Live look at Kevin Malone reading this story and wondering why they couldn’t just add two more ounces:
