BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Can’t wait!
There had been rumors swirling for a few years that Green Bay was eventually going to get the green light to host the draft. Anytime that rumor cropped up though, you had to hear a bunch of WHINY national NFL writers complain about how small the city is, do they have enough hotels, do they have enough restaurants, is there internet, blah blah blah. Live look at what a national NFL writer thinks he/she is heading to in April of 2025:
Christ, guys. It will be fine. Sheboygan hosted the RYDER CUP with no issues in 2021. Green Bay can handle the NFL Draft. There are plenty of hotels. There’s a Hampton Inn, a Best Western, and a Country Inn and Suites if you want to get fancy.
And fine dining? Uhhhh, I think you’ll find what you’re looking for:
You’re welcome. And if you really need internet I’ve heard that the Midwest Communications building has plenty of AOL internet CD’s laying around, grab as many as you want to send out your stupid tweets.
In all seriousness, even though a few of the national writers have a dump in their pants about it, what a coup for Green Bay, and what an experience of the diehard NFL fan. Green Bay is a pilgrimage for most football fans. Lambeau Field, the Packer Hall of Fame, the history of the NFL’s only publicly owned team, the most titles in the history of the league, the list of reasons to love it goes on and on and on and on. Green Bay IS football. So for the people that matter most, the fans of the game, this was an excellent selection.
And the Titletown District is a big reason why they got the nod as well. Say what you want about Mark Murphy, but he has been at the center of building up that area around the stadium. Restaurants, breweries, Lodge Kohler, etc. I don’t think it’s a secret that the motivation behind ALL of those plans was to land something like this.
Now I can’t find the actual dates for the 2025 draft, but based on where it is most years, I would think April 24th-26th is pretty likely. Percentage chance that hotels in Green Bay are already fielding calls for those dates this morning? 15%.
PS: One thing that these writers from major markets are going to be astounded by? Drink prices. When they order their first old fashion and pay $3.50, that’s going to change their attitude REAL quick.
Double PS: It’s been a big month for Green Bay. You may have seen that U.S. News and World Report recently ranked Green Bay as the #1 place to live in the United States. What I always find funny about those stories is how quick the residents of that city are to hop into comment sections so they can crap on the city they live in. Our sister station in Green Bay, Y100, posted a link to the article about a week ago. I knew what was coming the second I clicked on the comment section. ’30 years living here, that’s a no from me.’ ‘Obviously they’ve never lived in GB.’ ‘Yeaaaaa maybe #1 armpit of the U.S.!’ And on and on it went. I’ll never understand it. ‘Hey, someone said something really nice about the place you live!’ ‘NOT ON MY WATCH!’
