Davante Adams:
Well played, Davante, well played.
One thing we didn’t address on the Tom Brady retirement blog yesterday as it relates to As The Rodgers Turns: Does Rodgers trade value go up with Brady no longer in the equation?
I think yes. I’m honestly not sure why type of compensation the Packers were looking at if they actually did deal Rodgers. If they would have dealt him after the 2021 season and gone to Love this past year? Probably at LEAST two first rounders. Now? I’m not so sure. My gut tells me they get at least one first rounder, and maybe an early Day 3 pick (3rd or 4th?) as well. But I honestly have no idea what a team is going to be willing to give up for what that team has to assume will be 1-year with a (presumably) healthy former 4-time MVP.
But the teams that will be interested in Rodgers were also probably interested in gauging Brady’s interest. Specifically the Niners and the Raiders. Does Brady taking his name off of the table put Gutey in a better position? I would think so. Maybe they get back to a point where they’re looking at a 1st and 2nd rounder as a jump off point. But I hadn’t considered that angle of the Brady retirement until I was texting about it with a buddy yesterday*.
Related: We’ll talk more about this on the podcast tomorrow, but after yet ANOTHER McAfee interview on Tuesday, I’m content with Rodgers being dealt if that’s what happens. I’m exhausted with him at this point. I still think, in my fart of farts, that a fully healthy Rodgers takes the team further than a fully healthy Love in the 2023 season. So for the purposes of seeing my favorite team win as many games as possible during the upcoming season, I’d want Rodgers back. But if they deal him for picks and go to Love, I’m fine with it. Let’s just get to a conclusion before pitchers and catchers report.

JUST COME HOME, DAVANTE!
Double PS: I need to know more about what led to Davante leaving Green Bay. I know plenty has been written about him just wanting to play with Derrick Carr and be closer to his family on the west coast, but is that really it? It just feels inconceivable that a HOF wide receiver, a guy who might end up being Top 10 All Time if he keeps producing, would just leave the Packers and a HOF quarterback in the prime of his career. Is there more to this story? Has to be, right?
