Guys being dudes! What’s better than that!
This was one of several pretty fun moments last night as Marquette had the WHOLE 2002-03 team back in town for a Final Four reunion. And I have to give it to D-Wade. You would think he’d be WELL beyond wanting to come back to Milwaukee for a college reunion given that he went on to become one of the greatest players in NBA history and a first ballot HOFer. He’s in Hollywood now as a producer, he’s married to Gabrielle Union, there are a million reasons why you’d expect him to be the one guy not back in town for a get together like that. But there he was, hamming it up with the boys. You love to see it.
Related: Shaka’s got that team COOKING. I said on the podcast three weeks ago that I think they can win the Big East regular season title. Last night’s win over #22 Providence combined with an Xavier loss has them a half game back of 1st place. They’re young, athletic, they play pressure defense, it’s a REALLY fun team to watch. When they hired Shaka I was excited, but I still thought it would take 2-3 years to get it turned around. Well he had them in the Tournament in Year 1 and it looks like they’re trending toward a top 3 seed in Year 2. Combo that up with the Badgers in the mix in the Big Ten and UWM leading the Horizon League and you’ve got enough good college basketball in the state that I’ve only thought about the Packers coming up short of the playoffs 28 times this morning. Pretty good!
PS: D-Wade was JUUUUUSST about had a redeposit on that beer when Diener pulled the cup away. Anyone who has played a drinking game has had that feeling. ‘Just keep swallowing, just keep swallowing, just keep swallowing, nope that’s coming back up.’ Classic!
Double PS: People forget that Dwayne Wade drew MJ comparisons in college, and rightfully so:
