While active cases of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County fell below 900 for the first time in three months on Thursday, another death – the fourth recorded this week – was added to the toll.
The latest casualty, the 246th due to the pandemic in Sheboygan County and the fourth this week, was of someone at least 80 years old. Of the victims, one was between 10 and 19 years old, six were in their 30s, nine were in their 40s, sixteen were in their 50s, thirty-nine were in their 60s, sixty-two were in their 70s, and one-hundred-thirteen were at least 80 years old.
The 886 currently active cases were the result of 9 new confirmed positives, countered by the casualty and 146 recoveries. 29,157 cases have been confirmed in all so far. This is the first time that active cases of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County have been fewer than 900 since 765 cases were reported on November 15, 2021.
The number of persons needing hospitalization at least once increased by 2 to 1,176, while those currently hospitalized number 10, two more than on Wednesday.
Sheboygan County’s level of community transmission remains “high” with a case rate of 132.65 per 100,000 persons, a drop of 8.67 points from Wednesday. The percent of tests returning positive for COVID-19 fell to 7.78% from the previous 8.12%.
The Wisconsin DHS reports that 72,120 county residents, or 62.6%, have received at least one dose of vaccine, while 68,811 have received both required doses. Those numbers are up by 25 and 34 persons respectively since Wednesday. In addition, the DHS now reports that 31.9%, or 36,730, have received an additional booster dose.
