Live look at Packer Twitter at about 12:05AM last night:
Before we get into the post itself, which might mean everything or nothing, let me say this:
Watching Aaron Rodgers’ career arc sync up PERFECTLY with Brett Favre’s has been mesmerizing. Because make no mistake about it, if things like Twitter, Instagram, etc. all existed in 2005 or 2006 or 2007, this is exactly what we’d be seeing from Favre. This is just a different version of Tractor Watch. Both players took over the league for a span of time, both won a bunch of MVP’s, both won 1 Super Bowl ring but (so far for Rodgers) never got a second, both steer into the offseason drama as it relates to them coming back or retiring. Check, check, check, check.
On to the post itself. Let those among us who haven’t had a few too many cocktails and hopped on Instagram or Facebook when we’re too in our own feelings cast the first stone. What does any of this mean as it relates to Rodgers retiring, coming back, or demanding a trade? Absolutely nothing (say it again). If this were foreshadowing a retirement, I would think you’d see something addressing the fans (and close personal friends) of the Packers. I think at this point it’s safe to say he’s not requesting a trade given the Packers dragged Tom Clements out of retirement to be the QB’s Coach next season. I don’t think he’s retiring because he’s the reigning MVP of the league and I don’t think there’s a CHANCE he wants to share the HOF stage with Tom Brady in 5 years. My position is what it’s always been: He’ll be back in a Packer jersey in September of 2022 after signing a fresh 2-year deal.
Now, you might be asking yourself as you read this: What credibility does this guy have, and can we take his interpretations of Rodgers’ post seriously? I’ll answer those questions in order; 1) None, and 2) Yes. I’ve worked in country radio for 15 years. And due to that, I have been forced to listen to Taylor Swift’s music every single day for more than a decade. So I am in a unique position to be able to interpret and analyze a post like the one Rodgers dropped last night. Given that expertise, my final analysis is that Rodgers will be coming back to the Packers next season in order to win a Super Bowl and stick it to Jake Gyllenhaal. It couldn’t be more clear.
Anyway, Pat McAfee was teasing a BIG guest on his show today, most of the speculation is that it will be Rodgers. Giddy up.
PS: The Big Ten took all day yesterday but finally sent down a ruling for the aftermath of the scrum following the Wisconsin/Michigan game. And it’s pretty much what we thought it would be in yesterday’s blog: Juwan Howard gets 5 games (rest of the regular season), Greg Gard gets a $10k fine. I thought Gard would get a game just so it looked like the conference was dealing with all parties, but they decided the fine was enough. And I’m more than fine with the Howard suspension. Some Badger fans wanted him fired, drawn and quartered. But I think the punishment fit the crime.
