G’day Buzz-kateers!
Well here we are again folks, another Super B… (shhhhh! Wanna get sued?) (sigh) “Super Big Annual Football Championship game”, and Green Bay… yeah… this season really goes under the heading of “Wow… well that sucked!”
Yup that’s right, here we are again. “T’was the best of times, twas the worst of times.” Best of times in that it was yet another amazing regular season. Worst of times in that said amazing regular season resulted in yet another home playoff game ending with a resounding thud. The special teams remained the dumpster fire they’d been all year and finally actually cost us a game at the worst possible time, the offensive game plan wasn’t great, and Rodgers picked a hell of a time to put the worst aspects of his game on display.
Far as the future goes, I have many appropriate quotes…
“Two paths diverged in a wood”. If 12 comes back, I’ll be very interested to see how it all works. Now I’m fully aware the cap situation is less than encouraging, however I also heard that so many times in the last 20 years about a lot of teams (best example I can think of is the Saints, who seemingly every year for the last decade of Drew Brees’s career were “totally screwed cap wise” in February), and yet somehow the cap gymnastics get worked out, the can gets kicked down the road, and they’re a contender again come August.
“Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things”- One of the reasons for hope would be Russ Ball is really, REALLY good at said gymnastics. So should 12 decide to return, I’m putting faith in things getting worked out. It also helps that the schedule next year isn’t massively ‘daunting’. The rest of the division is a mess; the Cowboys, Giants, and Jets are coming to Lambeau; and we travel to Miami and Philly, which makes 11 VERY winnable games right off the top.
Now, should 12 decide he doesn’t wanna be here anymore… “everything ends badly, otherwise it wouldn’t end”. If he’s getting traded, hopefully the haul is plentiful (and just seeing what other players have yielded the last couple years… I’m guessing the bonanza a multi-time MVP QB would return would be impressive) you take the year in “cap hell” and clear the books, and find out what Love really is or isn’t. If he retires, same thing, minus the “fat return” (so that’d be the worst case scenario). Either way, it becomes a new era: “Man looks in the abyss, there’s nothing staring back at him. At that moment, man finds his character. And that is what keeps him out of the abyss.”
Anywho here we sit facing another Sup… (sigh) “Super Big Annual Football Championship game” without a real reason to watch the game. However, fear not, Otto is here to save your Sunday… what’s the one thing people LOVE as much as football? PROPISITION GAMBLING!
So I present to you the annual PROPS POOL 2022!
Now regular “pick a number” and “pick a square” pools are all well and good, but (good time to point out BTW that for the remainder of this blog, when I speak of any “illegal” conduct, I’m of course speaking in hypotheticals… and that neither Midwest Communications nor any of it’s management or staff endorses or encourages gambling where it’s not legal to do so… we good? Cool!) however as far as gambling goes they’re kinda like slot machines. Random, almost totally unskilled, no real thought behind it, you wind up rooting for totally unrealistic and stupid things (“COOOMEEE OONNN SAFETY! I NEED THAT 4!”), and you also wind up trying to do math after you’ve been drinking all afternoon… bad times. Hence where the “Prop” game comes in.
Here’s how this works: print out as many copies as you have people coming over (just do like 3 extra… one as a master, and a few “Oops I spilled my beer” back ups), have each person toss in… ummmm…. *See the above disclaimer* (wink, wink, nudge, nudge…) , and have them go down the list, and circle their predicted answers to the questions (have them do it in pen… prevents cheating) , and whomever gets the most right gets the… ummm… *See the above disclaimer* honor and glory of being right (wink, wink, nudge, nudge…) . Gives everyone a reason to care, pay attention, and have still fun with the game.
Why so many questions? Prevents ties at larger parties. Use as many or as few of these as you like. Feel free to add your own questions if you like (Protip: just make sure it’s something you can track without getting TOO into following everything that it takes away from the enjoyment of the afternoon…) For those who don’t gamble: the reason anything with a number is presented as “X.5”, is to prevent there being a “Push” or tie with the questions. (Example: “JERSEY NUMBER OF PLAYER TO SCORE FIRST TOUCHDOWN- OVER 18.5 UNDER” If the numbers 18 or smaller Under wins, if the numbers 19 or higher Over wins, cool?)
