Decades of meetings, court proceedings and delays, and years of work that followed come to a conclusion at the end of the work day today when the new lanes of Highway 23 in Sheboygan County are officially opened and the speed limit changes from 55 to 65 MPH from Highway 57 to the Fond du Lac County line.
Work on the Sheboygan County section started in spring 2019 and included construction of the additional lanes with concrete, installing drainage culverts and inlets, wetlands mitigation, new bridge structures, paving sideroads, and improvements of the Old Plank Road Trail.
In 2022, the original lanes in both Sheboygan and Fond du Lac Counties will undergo milling and overlay, completing the project between Highways 57 and 151.
