The world’s biggest game in golf, the Ryder Cup, has finally arrived.
After years of anticipation, and a heartbreaking 1-year delay due to COVID, teams comprised of the best golfers from Europe and the US will face off later this week at Whistling Straits north of Sheboygan. Some have called it the Super Bowl of golf, and for the Sheboygan Area, the impact is expected to be comparable.
With around 45-50 thousand expected to attend the event from around the world, rooms at area hospitality venues have been booked for years, while B&B’s, VRBO’s and homeowners alike are taking advantage of demand through their rentals.
And a drive through Sheboygan will probably reveal plenty of Ryder Cup signs and banners in area businesses vying for a piece of the pie. According to bizjournals.com, the 2016 Ryder event held at Hazeltine in Chaska, Minnesota had a $135 million impact on the regional economy, and this year’s event is expected to be similar.
