Rep. Terry Katsma, of Oostburg

District 9 Wisconsin State Senator Devin Lemahieu
Governor Evers on Thursday signed the 2021-23 biennial budget, keeping his promise, he says, of cutting taxes for middle-class families by 10 percent and providing $2 billion in relief on that class. But the budget he signed was crafted by Republicans, and local legislators were quick to take credit and criticize the Governor.
Republican Representative Terry Katsma of Oostburg credited the GOP-dominated legislature for a budget he called “responsible and reasonable and realistic”, saying it looks nothing like what Governor Evers proposed in February.
9th District Senator Devin LeMahieu, also of Oostburg, gave credit to the legislature for the budget, saying that “Governor Tony Evers deserves NO credit for signing our budget”, and that “He is not a fighter. He is not a leader…He is merely sensible enough to recognize a better budget when he sees one.”
