The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding the person who shined a green laser from the north pier at patrol boats on Saturday night.
The Sheriff’s Office posted the report on the Countywide Crime Stoppers Facebook page, saying that the incident happened at about 9:15 PM while their Water Safety Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard were monitoring the waters during the fireworks display. The laser was shined inside the cabins of both boats and into the eyes of Sheriff’s Department and Coast Guard personnel, causing temporary loss of vision. That’s a violation of both Wisconsin statutes restricting the use of laser pointers, as well as federal laws that prohibit aiming a laser pointer at a vessel. Because of the crowd size, the Sheriff’s Office said attempts to locate the responsible subject were unsuccessful.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone with information to contact the authorities at 920-459-3111, or to leave a web tip at www.cufthem.com, where your anonymous tip could result in a reward up to $1,000.
