4 months after the release of the first book in the Completionist Chronicles, Dakota Krout, dropped book 2, “Regicide”.
Overview:
“Artifacts that can change the world. Rituals that can make them. Kings that refuse to reconcile.
After the encounter at the Mage’s College, Joe’s name has become well-known in Eternium. While the majority of his guild is ecstatic over the bonuses that he brings them, not everyone is pleased with his rising influence. In fact, someone has been spreading rumors that Joe is unbalanced, sacrificing comrades for personal power.
As a result, Joe is forced to recruit a team of misfits and discovers that their unique abilities complement his own. With their assistance, Joe moves forward with his plans to specialize into a more powerful version of his Ritualist class.
When the dust settles, he will be forced to ask himself a simple question: was it his actions that lit the fires of war?”
As you may recall I loved book 1, “Ritualist” and gave it my approval for anyone over 12. This book is just as good. Dakota Krout does a great job with character development. This book shows a great evolution of the story and of the character, Joe.
Joe is evolving physically, emotionally and magically. He is starting to become a little less self centered in this book and perhaps it is forced upon him as the leader of his own team. He is learning more about what it means to be a leader.
While Joe is a good character this book would be nothing without the interesting supporting characters. They are quirky and strange and it really shows the difference in characters based on how the players choose to distribute their game points.
The story is creative and fun to read. I am excited to continue on with the Completionist Chronicles with book 3, “Rexus: Side Quest.”
