Although the Centers for Disease Control has given the OK for fully vaccinated persons to ditch their masks in most situations, policies are largely left up to individual communities, schools and businesses. And at least in the case of the Sheboygan Area School District, masks will still be required through the end of this academic year.
On Monday night, Board of Education members met in a special session to review and discuss mask requirements that allowed optional mask wearing for fully vaccinated students and staff in the district. Board members heard background information on the current masking requirement and also listened to feedback from community members and decided that all students and staff will be required to wear a mask through the end of the school year on June 8th.
Starting on Wednesday, June 9th, masks will be optional for all students and staff in the Sheboygan Area School District.
Word of the decision went out late Monday night in a letter to families from Superintendent Seth Harvatine. A review of other districts in Sheboygan County showed no change in policies, so for the time being, masks in school are still the rule.
