Genres: Fantasy, Fantasy Magic, Science Fiction, Adventure, Epic Fantasy
Overview: “The decision to start a new life is never an easy one, but for Joe the transition was far from figurative. Becoming a permanent addition to a game world, it doesn’t take long to learn that people with his abilities are actively hunted. In fact, if the wrong people gained knowledge of what he was capable of, assassins would appear in droves.
In his pursuit of power, Joe fights alongside his team, completes quests, and delves into the mysteries of his class, which he quickly discovers can only be practiced in secret. Ultimately, his goal is to complete every mission, master every ability, and learn all of the world’s secrets. All he has to do is survive long enough to make that happen.”
What a brilliant story! It’s no wonder it gets 5 stars on Barnes and Noble and 4.3 out of 5 on Goodreads. I recommend this one to anyone 12+. Girls and boys alike will enjoy the fantasy, adventure and magic. Some books take a few chapters to really get you hooked, but not this one! It’s an incredible origin story that is smartly crafted every step of the way. Dakota Krout is a truly creative and intelligent writer.
I describe this as a cross between the Amazon Prime Show “Upload” where a guy has his consciousness uploaded into a virtual heaven so he can still communicate with his living family and friends, and Ready Player 2 because Joe is part of a game.
I’m so glad this is part of a series because when the book was over I didn’t want Joe’s story to end. The story was wrapped up nicely, I didn’t feel like it was rushed or that it ended abruptly to leave you hanging it came to a good close, but knowing that there is more for this character makes me so happy.
I give it 5 stars. I’ve been telling everyone who will listen about it every chance I get. Paperback, Kindle and audiobook versions are available.
