Live look at Packer Twitter disagreeing with whatever the Packers do tonight:

It is a tradition unlike any other! I had a buddy in a group text as earlier in the week what we all think the Packers will/should do tonight, and my response was that I have no idea, but I do know that Packer Twitter will immediately hate whatever Gutey does the second after he does it. Trade up, trade down, stay pat at #29, offense, defense, it doesn’t matter. Seconds after a decision is made, a bunch of people on Twitter who only know about 3% of the players in the draft by name, will reach the conclusion that management has totally f-ed up again. I heard it/read it when they took Rashan Gary, when they drafted Jaire Alexander, last year with Jordan Love (which I still sort of agree with the angry Twitter mob), it simply does not matter.
And for that reason, for the entertainment value of watching people meltdown on social media, that tonight is one of my favorite nights. I had a texter to the station this morning suggest that Gutey should take ANOTHER quarterback in the 1st round simply for the reaction. Could you imagine?? Packer Twitter would have a CONNIPTION if he took another quarterback. It’s almost worth it.
In all seriousness, I’ve given up trying to guess what this team is going to do on draft night. Especially after last year. I don’t have a CLUE what they perceive to be their biggest weakness for this year, next year, or 5 years down the road, and what order of importance they’ve placed on those weaknesses.
I’m a dumb (but good looking) fan. I want them to go all-in every single year to win a Lombardi Trophy. From that perspective my gut tells me they need a corner. This team was a Super Bowl contender last year, and they’re a Super Bowl contender/favorite this year as well. But the one thing I really don’t love right now is going into next year with Kevin King and Chandon Sullivan as your 2nd and 3rd best corners. Brady and the Bucs picked them APART in the NFC Championship game. And if the Packers somehow get back to that stage, and the game is at Lambeau Field, it feels like that same thing could happen again.
So corner would be my top priority, but I could see them targeting an offensive tackle for the future, I could see them FINALLY drafting a wide receiver in the early rounds, I could see them looking for more depth at middle linebacker. But to tie this whole blog together with another Simpsons reference, if they don’t do what I want them to do, I will be sure to register my disgust on the internet tomorrow morning for all to see:
PS: I will add this PS to any draft day blog until the day I die: I will never forgive Roger Goodell for taking away one of the great drinking/grilling days of the spring when he moved the draft to primetime. When the draft was all day Saturday, and all day Sunday, it was PERFECT. I remember during my college years in Point, the weather would be getting a little warmer, we’d get a quarter barrel propped up on the porch, fire up the grill, and then watch the draft for 12 hours. Which transitioned beautifully to a Brewer game that night. Hit up some late night pizza, wake up and kill the keg with 12 more hours of draft coverage on Sunday. Now I’m sitting in my recliner desperately trying to stay awake until the Packers pick at midnight, only to have to get up and go to work in the morning. I know we still get rounds all day on Saturday, but it’s not the same.
Double PS: One more Simpsons reference for the above PS:
