(WHBL) – Flags in Wisconsin will be at half staff for a week in memory of the state’s Air National Guard pilot who died Tuesday. The Governor issued the order Friday after the Wisconsin National Guard released the name of F-16 pilot as Air Force Captain Durwood “Hawk” Jones of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He served in Afghanistan, Japan and Korea and was based out of Truax Field in Madison. Captain Jones died when his plane went down in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula during a training exercise.
Governor Tony Evers said, “Captain Jones was a decorated combat veteran, a self-less hero and a caring father, husband and son.”
