SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – A $161,350 cash infusion into Sheboygan County hospitality venues has been granted through the COVID-19 Lodging Grants that were announced Thursday by Governor Evers. The local money headed for ten individual operations was part of $18,075,400 distributed statewide, and the recipients were awarded about $350 per eligible room. The county’s two largest operators – the Osthoff in Elkhart Lake and Kohler Hospitality – were not among the recipients.
In 2019, visitors to the state spent $3.7 billion on lodging but recent surveys by the Wisconsin Hotel and Lodging Association indicate that nearly half of Wisconsin hotel and lodging properties will close within six months without loan or grant assistance.
