MADISON, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network-WSAU) – It will likely be Wednesday, not Tuesday night, before unofficial Wisconsin results are in.
Meagan Wolfe, Wisconsin’s chief elections administrator, says “At no point, will election officials sacrifice accuracy for speed. They’ve added resources like more poll workers and equipment to create efficiencies. And they will continue to tally until each ballot is counted.”
And she says voters and candidates should not assume anything is wrong if the vote tally is delayed.”If unofficial results aren’t available until the next morning, it does not mean that something went wrong. It means that election officials are doing their job. And their job is to make sure that every valid ballot gets counted.”
Wolfe said because of the coronavirus pandemic, they’re dealing with an unprecedented number of absentee ballots. 1.8-million Wisconsinites have voted early or absentee — about 51% of the electorate.
Unlike many states, counting of those ballots can’t begin until polls open.
