So McDonalds rolled out a new arsenal of bakery items yesterday: A blueberry muffin (made with real blueberries!*), a cinnamon roll, and an apple fritter.
Those that know me, know I’m a BIG apple fritter guy. YUGE. Earlier this year, Lindsey and I instituted something we are now calling ‘Doughnut Saturday’s.’ I know the name we gave it could be construed as cryptic, but it’s not: Every Saturday we just go and get doughnuts. Hence, Doughnut Saturday. We started by getting a dozen, but quickly realized that housing half a dozen doughnuts in a 12 hour span probably isn’t sustainable if we wanted to max out our time on this earth. So a few months ago we rolled it back to half a dozen total, 3 doughnuts each. And almost every Saturday, an apple fritter is a part of my three selections. So I’ll be curious to see how Mickey D’s stacks up.
Cinnamon rolls are always a home run, but let’s be honest, that cinnamon roll isn’t going to be able to touch the GOAT fast-food cinnamon roll, the Hardees cinnamon raisin biscuits:
If you want to get into semantics and say that those aren’t technically cinnamon rolls, that’s your prerogative, but in my mind they’re close enough. But the bad boys pictured above will always be the power ranking leader in cinnamon roll-type food at a fast food chain. Plus the fact that they have raisins in them makes them borderline health food.
Anyway, while 2020 continues to be a turd sandwich tossed in a dumpster fire, at least fast food chains and the snack food industry have been giving us new options to induce a sugar coma that will hopefully last until New Year’s Day. America!
*I love when fast food chains add that as something to get excited about. ‘Our blueberry muffins now contain REAL blueberries!’ What the heck was I eating before?
PS: When I heard that a cinnamon roll was a part of the ‘new’ bakery line, I thought to myself, ‘self,’ I says, ‘I thought they already had a cinnamon roll?’ You know what I was remembering? These things:
If I remember correctly, they billed these as basically the ‘inside of a cinnamon roll.’ Do they still roll these out? I’ll hang up and listen.
