SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – An infusion of money to help offset the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on school systems in Wisconsin will steer nearly $1-1/2 million ($1,458,447.78) into the Sheboygan Area School District budget.
An invitation went out from Governor Evers yesterday for eligible districts to apply for their portion of an overall $46.6 million made available by the CARES act through the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund, known as GEER.
In making the announcement, the Governor said that “It’s vital to ensure the schools across Wisconsin that are most significantly impacted by COVID-19 have the additional resources they need as they make decisions about how students will learn in the upcoming school year and beyond.” Evers said that the GEER funds will help support students, teachers, and parents alike.
According to State DPI Superintendent Carolyn Stanford Taylor, the Sheboygan Area District qualified based on economic disadvantage, access to personal computing devices and internet access, and students’ score on the English Language Arts Assessment. The Sheboygan Area District was the only one in the county that qualified.
