Two things:
1) Until Lindsey and I started dating, I don't think I had ever had guacamole. She ordered chips and guac at one the first Mexican restaurants we went to, and I've never looked back. It's so good that I had retroactive regret for every tortilla chip I had ever eaten in my life that I didn't have fresh guac on. Jon, you ignorant slut.
2) ^With that said, combining guacamole flavor with Doritos during a time where everyone is eating snacks 24/7/365 is as exciting as it is diabolical.
Now I was discussing these chips on the air this morning*and said that, while I'm excited for them, I don't think they could ever supplant my all time favorite flavor of Doritos: Taco Doritos.
This led to a flood of texts (4), some of which agreed with me, some of which did not. One text informed me that the Taco flavor was actually the first flavor in the history of Doritos, which is something that I was not aware of. I grew up in the Nacho Cheese/Cool Ranch era**, and assumed those two flavors were the originals. Not true! Also not true: Taco was not the first flavor. Well, it might have been the first FLAVOR, but not the first style. Doritos were introduced in 1966, as a basic corn chip. 1967 saw the Taco flavor introduced, Nacho Cheese in 1972, with most other flavors coming out in the 80's. The more you know.
Another texter said that these bad boys were the all time best flavor:
I had totally forgotten about that flavor, but they were fire. Like, literally.
Anyway, apparently Guacamole Doritos are on their way and I am geeked to give a full review that nobody asked for in the coming months.
*Live look at my morning show:
**One of the great marketing schemes in the history of snack foods was Doritos simply introducing an, '-er' to their two most popular flavors. Nacho CheesiER. CoolER Ranch. 100% chance nothing changed about the amount of seasoning on them, but I bought in hook, line, and sinker.
PS: Had another text that said chips/munchies conversation was very appropriate for today. I assure you I have no idea what that texter was referencing. It is April 20th, the Year of Our Lord 2020, and that's all I know about it.
Double PS: Apparently there were Guacamole Doritos that were released in 2013 and cancelled almost two weeks later. So some Doritos truthers are saying this is simply a flavor returning. In the interest of fair and balanced reporting, I felt that needed to be added.
